BKIPM

BKIPM Mataram physically inspects every pearl shipment leaving Lombok, domestic and export. It belongs in your timeline, not the fine print.

No CITES for pearls

KLHK

Pearls are not CITES-listed. Only protected corals and shells need KLHK permits, so a CITES fee on plain pearl goods is padding.

Imports are licensed

Since 2012

Ministry of Trade Regulation No. 2/2012, dated 3 January 2012, put non-automatic import licenses on pearls, keeping foreign pearls from being relabelled Indonesian.

  • High-grade ceiling is the top of Indonesian market studies; single-pearl range is one Indonesian producer's.
  • Pearls are goods, not investments. Price rests on luster, nacre, surface, size, shape and colour.

The Indonesian Pearl Cultivation Association reported Lombok prices rising from USD 5 to USD 16.3 per gram around 2011–2012. No trend is promised.

How an export order works

Nothing moves on a verbal agreement.

  1. Inquiry

    Colour, size band, shape, grade, quantity and destination airport.

  2. Written quotation

    Per-grade pricing plus a landed-cost estimate for your incoterm, usually within two working days.

  3. Verification

    Video inspection of the actual lot, with certificates where applicable. Payment terms fixed in writing.

  4. Documentation

    KKP approval, Sertifikat Mutu, BKIPM inspection and Health Certificate, plus Certificate of Origin where needed.

  5. Insured air freight

    Airway bill and document pack sent before arrival, so your broker clears without a storage day.
