- Minimums are set in value, not piece count: per-gram prices run IDR 100,000 to IDR 5,000,000 by type and grade, so a fifty-pearl lot can be worth USD 800 or USD 40,000.
- Indicative figures, as of 2026. Minimums move with harvest timing and grade mix.
One industry source puts Indonesia at roughly 45% of global South Sea pearl production, about USD 500 million, as of 2014, much of it exported loose.
How lots are sorted by grade and colour
Six factors decide where a pearl lands: luster, nacre thickness, surface, size, shape and colour. AAA–A charts are trade conventions, so every stated grade comes from inspection or an accompanying certificate, never a farm's own label.
Colour matters most on goldens. Indonesian goldens tend to light champagne, while Philippine goldens reach deeper mustard, so state your saturation target in the brief.

- Shipments travel under HS 7101210000 (unworked cultured pearls) or 7101220000 (worked pearls).
- Pearls are not CITES-listed as of 2026. KLHK permits only apply when jewelry uses listed corals or protected shell, so we flag mixed-material orders early.
